Located in Durham, North Carolina, Sharon founded the practice that became the Sharon Thompson Law Group in 1976. She is a seasoned family lawyer and accomplished practitioner in all aspects of estate planning and probate administration, including elder law. She has also taught at both the UNC-CH and North Carolina Central Schools of Law.
A respected problem-solver and negotiator, Sharon was voted 16th most effective during her two terms as a legislator in the North Carolina House of Representatives (1987-1990).
She was the recipient of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys Annual Award in 1987, the Planned Parenthood of Raleigh Margaret Sanger Award in 1990, North Carolina AFL-CIO Legislative Award in 1992 and the ACLU-North Carolina Frank Porter Graham Award in 2007. Sharon was a co-founder of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys and has served as counsel for various non-profit organizations.

Jeff engages in a broad range of business and contract law with emphasis on civil litigation, personal injury, social security disability, and probate and estate administration. Within the area of assisted reproduction, Jeff is a leader in the area of surrogacy contracts.
As a trial lawyer, Jeff represents parties in trials, hearings, arbitrations and mediations before administrative agencies, federal, state and local courts. He has extensive knowledge of substantive and procedural laws as well as strong advocacy skills. He is able to quickly synthesize complex legal and factual materials and negotiate on behalf of his clients.
Over more than 16 years of legal practice, Jeff has developed an in-depth knowledge of the needs of intended parents seeking build their families by working with gestational carriers. Jeff represents intended parents, gestational carriers, egg donors and fertility clinics. Jeff provides legal assistance for the preparation of surrogacy agreements. He comprehensively reviews and drafts surrogacy and gestational carrier contracts that clearly detail each parties' intentions and legal rights. His representation brings order and assurance to the process by which surrogates and intended parents come together to gestate a child and then allow the intended parents to take legal custody of the child while the surrogate releases all parental rights to the child.
