Estimated Expenses (Surrogate Cycle)
This section provides an outline of the total expenses the typical couple, using a surrogate, will face. This list shows total overall expenses including medical expenses such as surrogate medications, the surrogate IVF procedure, etc. This first list does not include the cost of the egg donor cycle. If you are working with an egg donor, please see the second list on this page. Aside from our agency fee, the expenses listed below are expenses you are likely to face regardless of what agency you work with.
$ 7,500 Agency Fee (less if using Consulting Service or if qualify for discount program)
$20,000 Surrogate Fee (first time surrogate. Experienced surrogate will ask a higher fee, typically $25,000 to $35,000)
$500 to $3,500 Surrogate travel ($500 to $3500, depending on how many times your clinic wants to see her and how long she must stay. If surrogate in same state and close enough to drive this will also reduce this expense)
Surrogate extras: (these fees can vary depending on the surrogate. We always confirm the fees a surrogate is asking prior to matching you)
$ 750 Transfer fee (for undergoing the IVF procedure)
$ 600 Maternity clothes
$ 300 Life Insurance
$500 to $1000 Invasive Procedure (if Surrogate must undergo Selective Reduction, Termination, D & C, Amniocentesis, etc)
$4,000 Loss of Reproductive Organ (Varies. Some surrogates will ask for compensation if they lose a reproductive organ)
$5000 Multiples (per additional fetus she carries)
$ 250/month Monthly Allowance (for vitamins, local travel, co pays, etc. Starts with contracts and ends three months after birth.
Lost Wages: Varies
Housekeeping/childcare if on bed rest : (We usually put a cap on this. Housekeeping not more than $75/week, childcare not to exceed $250 week. Again, this is something we'd confirm with that particular surrogate prior to matching you)
$ 500 Psych Evaluation (experienced surrogate will already have had this done)
$ 7,250 Attorney Fees (Varies from one attorney to another. Typically $3000 to draft, $750 to review with surrogate, $3500 for pre birth order . Most attorneys charge this fee, some are slightly less, some slightly higher)
TOTAL ANTICIPATED FEES for Surrogacy: $40,900 to $62,900 (higher end would be if using experienced surro and she asks a higher fee, if she conceives multiples, if she's out of state and travels, if she loses reproductive organ, etc. This total does not include possibility of surrogate ending up on bed rest and needing lost wages, childcare, and does not include medical expenses.)
Cost of surrogate meds and IVF procedure - please consult your clinic for cost, but here are some estimates:
Surrogate meds: approx. $4,000
IVF Procedure: approx. $5,000 - $12,000 (can be somewhat lower/higher...depends on clinic you choose and their fees)
Surrogate monitoring: $1,000 (if surrogate is out of state, a clinic close to her will perform her first few monitoring appts. This minimizes the amount of time she must travel, thereby minimizing your expense. This does not end up costing you more, because your clinic will do a few less, and should offset their charges accordingly)
Surrogate testing: $2,000
Intended Parent testing: $2000 (varies depending on if your insurance covers this or not. This includes STD testing, semen analysis and anything else your clinic feels is necessary.)
Total Estimated Medical Expenses: $ 14,000 to $21,000 (This total does not include possibility of having to undergo FET if first IVF is not successful, etc.)
Estimated Expenses (Egg Donor Cycle)
This section provides an outline of the total expenses the typical couple, using an egg donor, will face. This list shows total overall expenses including medical expenses such as donor medications, the donors retrieval procedure, etc. The list below does NOT include the cost of the recipient (Intended Parent or Surrogate's) IVF cycle. The expenses below reflect only the egg donor portion of the process.
$3,900 Agency Fee (Lower if qualify for discount program. This is the only fee we charge for our service. Other expenses listed below are for attorneys, donor testing, donor travel, donors compensation, etc. and are expenses you would face regardless of what agency you work with )
$5,000 to $9500 Donor Fee (First time donor will ask $5,000 typically. Experienced/proven donors will ask between $6000 to $9000 with most proven donors asking somewhere in the middle (we rarely have a donor ask $9,000). We will confirm the fee donor is asking prior to your selection of any donor. Keep in mind an experienced donor will already have had much of her testing completed, thereby saving a lot of testing expense.)
$1,000 to $2,000 Intended Parents' Attorney (Fees vary from one attorney to another. We will provide information on available attorneys, including their fees, and you choose which attorney you want to work with.)
$500 Donor Attorney (To review contract with donor prior to signing)
$400 Donor Insurance Policy (This policy covers the donor should she suffer any complications as a result of the procedure. )
$500 to $3000 Donor Travel ( A local donor (a donor who lives within an hour of your clinic) will only require reimbursement of mileage for her driving to your clinic for visits. Donors who live several hours from the clinic or out of state will have higher travel expenses as they may require a hotel room, meals, mileage and or rental car, gas for rental car, etc. Typical expense for a local donor tends to be approx.$500. Out of state donors travel will cost approx. $3000, depending on what state she is in and the associated air fare, how many trips your clinic requires her to make, etc.
Note: The first trip a donor makes to your clinic for testing tends to be two days/one night travel and donor usually goes alone. However, the week of the actual retrieval your donor will be required to stay 5 to 7 days near the clinic. For safety reasons and to ensure the donor has someone to care for her following the procedure, a donor must have a companion join her during this time.
For the first trip a donor makes, she will receive $50/day for food (since its just her), $100/day for hotel (including taxes), $50/day rental car (if needed), $20/day rental car insurance, $20/day gas for rental car (if donor lives close enough to drive her own car, she is paid 43 cents per mile for every mile driven instead of a rental car). If donor must fly to clinic her air fare is also paid.
For the final trip, to complete the egg retrieval, the donors companion must join her. This increases food to $100/day and, if donor must fly, air fare for her companion is also paid. However, the companion does not have any affect on the remainder of expenses (they must share hotel room, rental car, etc)
** WHEN YOU FIND A PARTICULAR DONOR OF INTEREST, WE CAN GO EXPENSES FOR THAT PARTICULAR DONOR **
Total estimated expenses for egg donation: $11,400 - $19,400 (Keep in mind the factors that affect the actual expense are: the donor you choose and what fee she is requesting and the amount of travel donor must complete. This total does not include medical costs. See below for an estimate)
Estimated Medical Expenses for Egg Donor Cycle:
$1000 to $1500 Donor Monitoring (If donor lives within an hour of your clinic, your clinic will perform all monitoring and the cost of this will be included in the fee they charge you. If you select a donor more than an hour from your clinic or who lives out of state, we will arrange for a satellite clinic close to the donor to perform a few of early monitoring appointments. This minimizes the amount of time she must remain near your clinic, thereby minimizing your travel expenses and the time she must miss from work or school. Monitoring should not cost you extra. Because having a satellite clinic do some of the monitoring appointments means your clinic does a few less, your clinic will usually offset their fee since they will be doing only the last few monitoring appointments before retrieval....please inquire with your clinic and/or with us for further details)
$1500 Donor Testing (If your clinic has an in-house lab they might handle all testing of the donor and this is included in their fees. If, however, some of the testing is done through a lab outside of your clinic, we are the responsible party the lab will bill. In this case, we will need to collect an amount sufficient to cover the cost of these lab tests. You will have this expense whether through your clinic or if done elsewhere. This is not an extra expense)
$500 Donor Psychological Evaluation (Only first time donor will need to have this done. Experienced donors will already have had this testing completed)
$5,000 to $10,000 Actual Egg Aspiration Procedure (Varies from one clinic to another)
Total Estimated Medical Costs for Donor Cycle: $ 7,500 to $12,500 (does not include cost of sperm donor testing)
Please consult your clinic for an accurate quote on medical expenses including procedure, testing and medications.
Some of these figures are estimates only. We are happy to go over every financial scenario with any particular donor or surrogate of interest to you so as to avoid any financial surprises.
